What it is

Door Kickers 2 is the sequel to Door Kickers. It entered early access in November 2020 and was fully released in February 2025. It moves the series from police work to special forces operations in a fictional Middle Eastern country, with several units, each with its own equipment.

It keeps the first game's system: an overhead view, routes drawn for each soldier, doors and corners as the main dangers, and a pause that can be used at any time to change the plan. Maps are larger and missions longer, with more options.

Why play it

It is one of the best regarded real-time tactics games of recent years, built up over four years of early access with its players. Its systems are deep without being opaque, and its mission editor and mods give it a long life.

It is still focused on room clearing, and it has little story.

Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines

Door Kickers 2 shares Commandos' small team, real time and sight lines, and plays with a pause and planned routes. It is the modern standard for real time with pause applied to a small squad of soldiers.

Dead Media is making RAD Tactics, a squad tactics game for PC played in real time with pause, set after the end of the world. It is in development.
