What it is
Commandos 3 is the 2003 third game in the series. Its campaigns are set in Stalingrad, Central Europe and Normandy. The team is smaller than in Commandos 2, and the missions are shorter and more varied in shape, including some that are open battles rather than infiltrations.
It keeps the series' isometric maps, specialists and lines of sight, and its engine's 3D interiors. It also added multiplayer.
Why play it
It has some of the series' best individual missions, and its shorter, more varied structure suits players who found Commandos 2 too dense.
Fans found it a step down. It moves away from the puzzles that made the series, and some missions are close to shootouts. The next game, Strike Force, was a first-person shooter, which ended the series' original line.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Commandos 3 keeps Commandos' tools and loosens its structure. Its shorter, louder missions are a reminder of what the original's long puzzles were worth.
