What it is
Robin Hood is a 2002 real-time stealth tactics game from Spellbound, made after Desperados. You command Robin Hood and up to four of his merry men, such as Little John, Friar Tuck, Will Scarlet and Maid Marian, in missions against the Sheriff of Nottingham and Prince John.
It plays like Desperados and Commandos: an isometric map, guards with lines of sight, and characters with different skills. Between missions you return to the camp in Sherwood Forest, where you can choose between story missions and smaller jobs, and train men.
Why play it
Its setting suits the genre perfectly: a band of outlaws using stealth and cleverness against a stronger enemy. It gives you more freedom than its predecessors in how you approach a mission, and the camp between missions adds a simple campaign.
Its combat, done by dragging the mouse in sword fights, is clumsy, and later missions can repeat.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Robin Hood keeps Commandos' stealth and specialists and gives them a base to return to. It shows the genre's ideas working in a world without guns, which makes stealth less a choice than a necessity.
