What it is
Satellite Reign is a 2015 real-time tactics game from the Australian studio 5 Lives, funded on Kickstarter and led by Mike Diskett, one of the programmers of Syndicate Wars. It is set in an open cyberpunk city controlled by a corporation, where you command four agents, a soldier, a hacker, a support specialist and an infiltrator, against it.
The city is one open map rather than a series of missions. You choose targets, scout them, hack cameras, bribe guards and plan entrances. Agents can be cloned into new bodies after death, and new bodies can be taken from civilians with useful genetics.
Why play it
Its open city lets you plan your own operations, quiet or loud, and the four agents complement each other in the way Commandos' specialists do. Its look, a neon rainy city, is a direct homage to the Syndicate games.
It can be repetitive, and its late game is easy once the agents are strong.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Satellite Reign shares Commandos' team of specialists who can each do something the others cannot, and its focus on infiltration over open war. It adds an open world and the Syndicate's corporate setting.
