What it is
Commandos 2 is the 2001 sequel to Behind Enemy Lines. It takes the team to Europe and the Pacific, with missions at a submarine base, a jungle bridge and a castle used as a prison, among others. New characters join, including a thief who can climb walls and a dog who carries items between commandos.
Its main change was depth. Buildings, ships and bunkers can be entered and are shown in full 3D interiors, and the outdoor maps can be rotated to see behind objects. Commandos can pick up weapons, swim, climb, tie up guards and hide bodies in more ways.
Why play it
It is often called the best game in the series and one of the best real-time tactics games ever made. Its maps are huge and dense, and each one can be solved in many ways. The new characters make the team more flexible, and the interiors make every building a mission of its own.
It is very hard, and its density can be overwhelming. Its interface asks a lot. A remaster, Commandos 2 HD Remaster, was released in 2020.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Commandos 2 keeps everything in Behind Enemy Lines and adds interiors, rotation and more tools. The puzzle of each map gets larger rather than different. If you liked the first game, this is the one most players would send you to next.
