What it is
Beyond the Call of Duty is a 1999 standalone expansion to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, made by the same studio. It offers a shorter set of missions with the same six specialists, set in occupied Europe, and is harder than the original from the first map.
It added tools that changed how missions are played. Commandos can throw stones and packets of cigarettes to distract guards, knock them out with fists, clubs or ether, handcuff them, and march a captured guard at gunpoint.
Why play it
It is more Commandos, harder, with the ideas that later made Commandos 2 richer appearing for the first time. Players who finished the original and wanted a challenge found it here.
It is short, and its difficulty is steep enough to frustrate. It is best played after the original.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Beyond the Call of Duty is Commandos itself, extended. What matters is the direction it took: more ways to handle a guard than killing, which gives the player more ways to solve a map.
