What it is
Desperados 2 is the 2006 sequel to Desperados. John Cooper sets out to avenge the death of his brother, a US Marshal, with his gang, Kate, Sam, Doc and others, each with their own skills.
It is rendered fully in 3D. The camera can be rotated and zoomed, and switched to a third-person view behind any character, which lets you play parts of a mission almost as an action game.
Why play it
The gang is still good company, and the third-person view is an interesting experiment. Some missions are well designed.
It was considered weaker than the first game: the 3D camera makes the overview that the genre depends on harder to keep, and the third-person mode is clumsy.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Desperados 2 keeps Commandos' specialists and stealth and tries to bring the camera down from above. Its difficulties show why the genre kept its overhead view: you need to see the whole map to plan.
