What it is
Freedom Force vs the Third Reich is the 2005 sequel to Freedom Force. A villain travels back to the Second World War and changes history, and the heroes of Patriot City follow him, fighting alongside heroes of the period against the Axis.
It keeps the first game's real-time combat with a pause, and adds to it. Heroes have more ways to interact with the world and each other, and the comic book style is moved from the early 1960s to the comics of the 1940s.
Why play it
It is the better of the two games, with more varied missions, a larger cast, and a combat system tuned by experience. Its affection for old comics is as strong as ever.
Like the first, its campaign is linear. Players who did not like the first will not be converted.
Next to Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines
Like its predecessor, it shares Commandos' small team of specialists in real time, adds a pause, and replaces stealth with spectacle.
