Miasma Chronicles

Miasma Chronicles is a 2023 tactics game from The Bearded Ladies, the studio of Mutant Year Zero. In an America ruined by a strange entity called the Miasma, Elvis, a young man, and Diggs, the robot he calls his brother, set out to find his mother and the secret of the Miasma.

It follows Mutant Year Zero's model: exploration in real time with stealth and ambushes, and turn-based combat with cover and action points when the fight starts. Elvis can use a glove to control the Miasma, giving him abilities, and a squad of four grows as companions join.

Its world is beautiful and its characters likeable, and it improves on Mutant Year Zero's combat. Its mix of stealth and turns is still a good one.

It is long and its story is uneven. Its stealth can again make some fights feel solved.

Miasma Chronicles shares Fallout Tactics' squad in a ruined America and its switch between real-time exploration and turn-based combat. It is the modern descendant of Fallout Tactics' combination of clocks, if not of its war.
