Wasteland 3

Wasteland 3 is a 2020 role-playing game from inXile Entertainment. A team of Desert Rangers travels to frozen Colorado to help its ruler, the Patriarch, in exchange for supplies for Arizona. Their journey begins with an ambush, and the survivors have to build a new base and a new team.

You command a squad of up to six, created or recruited, with turn-based combat using action points and cover. The squad travels in an armoured truck, the Kodiak, which also fights. The base grows over the campaign, and the factions of Colorado must be dealt with through choices that have consequences.

It is the best of the Wasteland games: the combat is sharper than Wasteland 2's, the writing is darkly funny, and the choices are many and hard. It can be played co-operatively by two players.

Its loading times at release were long and its late game can be unbalanced. It is a long game.

Wasteland 3 shares Fallout Tactics' squad of rangers in a world after nuclear war, a base between missions, and turn-based action points. It is a role-playing game with a squad tactics core, and the closest modern game to Fallout Tactics' premise.
