What it is
Rebuild 3 is a 2015 strategy game by Sarah Northway of Northway Games, the third in a series that began as browser games. After a zombie outbreak, you lead a group of survivors and try to reclaim a city, one block at a time, from the dead.
It is turn-based. Each survivor is a named person with skills and traits, assigned to scavenge, build, fight, research or recruit. Factions of other survivors, from gangs to religious groups, can be traded with, allied with or fought. Zombie hordes grow over time and attack the edges of the settlement.
Why play it
It is a small game about a large idea: rebuilding after the end, with every survivor a person and every block a decision. Its factions and events give each game a story.
Its fights are abstract rather than tactical: you choose who goes, not how they fight. It is a management game with a squad, not a tactics game.
Next to Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel
Rebuild 3 shares Fallout Tactics' world after collapse, and adds zombies and factions in the place of mutants and raiders. It is here for the strategy around the fights: who to send, what to take, which faction to trust.
