What it is
Underrail is a 2015 role-playing game from the Serbian studio Stygian Software, released in early access in 2012. The surface of the world is uninhabitable, and humanity lives in the old metro stations below. You play a single character who joins one station and works for it.
Combat is turn-based with action points, and the character system is deep: skills, feats, crafting, psionics. There are no companions, so every fight is one person against the tunnels.
Why play it
It is the closest modern game to the original Fallout's combat and character systems, and its tunnels are a well-made world. Its difficulty is high, and players who like to plan a character carefully love it.
It is long and slow, with no squad, and its look is functional.
Next to Fallout Tactics: Brotherhood of Steel
Underrail shares Fallout Tactics' roots, Fallout's turn-based action points and dark world, but without a squad. It is here for players who came to Fallout Tactics from the Fallout role-playing games, and want those games' combat again.
